Ford Explorer Base
The Base trim is the entry-level Explorer. It has tri-zone climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and split-folding second and third-row seats.
Ford Explorer XLT
The XLT has captain's chairs for six people, and both front seats are power-adjustable.
Ford Explorer ST-Line
The ST-Line gets a wireless phone charging pad, a black grille and black trim accents, tinted exterior lights, and ambient interior lighting.
Ford Explorer Timberline
The Timberline has a unique front-end design, tow hooks, underbody skid plates, and synthetic leather seats.
Ford Explorer Limited
The Limited has more chrome accents, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and leather upholstery.
Ford Explorer ST
The ST has paddle shifters, a digital instrument panel, leather seats with synthetic suede inserts, and a sports suspension.

Interior and Exterior
The Ford Explorer has a large interior with three rows of seats. Depending on the trim level you choose, you can also get captain's chairs in the second row, which reduces the seating capacity to six people but provides more room for people and belongings. Seating material varies as you move up the line, and the higher-end trims have luxury upgrades such as custom leather upholstery and massaging seats. The Ford seats are comfortable, and the cabin has plenty of space across all three rows. Its trunk has everything you need to store belongings and equipment elsewhere. The driver's seat is positioned to provide excellent visibility, and multi-way adjustable seats help make driving safer and more comfortable.
Outside, the Ford Explorer has a sleek and discreet design. The Explorer's exterior meshes practically with safe elements such as bright standard LED lights. A power liftgate is standard with the Ford Explorer, which makes it much easier to stow and move your belongings in and out of the car. Additional features such as roof rails upgraded exterior lights, and larger wheels are available for exterior enhancements on some trim levels.
Safety and Technology
The Ford Explorer has a standard eight-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The base trim level has a six-speaker sound system. USB ports are added to the second row, starting with the second trim. Navigation is standard, beginning with the ST-Line, which adds a surround-view camera system and a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system with 12 speakers.
The Explorer includes blind-spot warning, forward collision mitigation, rear parking sensors, and lane departure mitigation for safety. Adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assistance, navigation, and a lane-keeping system are safety aids available with the Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ package. The ST-Line and higher trim levels also have a standard surround-view camera to help with parking and other situations where you must maneuver the Explorer carefully and confidently. Trailer towing equipment also comes with the Ford Explorer.
Performance
The base engine is a turbo 2.3-liter engine with four cylinders that produces 300 horsepower. You can also get a more potent turbo 3.0-liter engine with six cylinders that produce up to 400 horsepower. A 10-speed transmission is standard. The Explorer tows 5,300 pounds.
